Progressive Folio 1
1. At what stage is your folio work for SIT253? Are you happy with what you have achieved?
I am in development stage. I just started creating my first visual asset, which is the main character of the game. I am still in the process of making it, so I haven’t really achieved much, but I really enjoy working on this project.
2. In regards to your timeline, are you on track?
I am pretty on track, but I think I should’ve just begin developing earlier. I don’t worry too much because I still have a lot of time and I already have a clear idea and strategy for this project.
3. What are the primary sources of information in your folio? (Progressive folio reflections only)
I am still looking for more tutorials to help me with the technical-related things for my visual asset development. I am currently reading Unity guides to really understand on what to do next for my asset development. I couldn’t find any scholar article that’s helpful, but I will try to look deeper.
4. Is there anything you like to do differently at this point of your folio?
No, since I am still in the development phase. I am pretty confident with what I have came up with until now, so I am just going to continue with what I am currently doing.
5. Summarise the progression you made on asset development.
Just started with making my first visual asset (male agent).
Progressive Folio 2
1. At what stage is your folio work for SIT253? Are you happy with what you have achieved?
I am still in development stage. I am still finalizing the two other visual assets and also mixing sound recordings for my audio assets. I am quite happy with my progress.
2. In regards to your timeline, are you on track?
I was not able to meet the deadline in creating all 4 visual assets. I’ve created a new timeline. This time, I am confident that I will be able to meet all deadlines.
3. What are the primary sources of information in your folio? (Progressive folio reflections only)
I am still using the same source to guide me for my visual asset development, which is from Unity. I have also found better tutorial videos on YouTube that were helpful.
4. Is there anything you like to do differently at this point of your folio?
Not really. I will be following the updated project timeline and continue in creating the other two visual assets.
5. Summarise the progression you made on asset development.
I have finished creating the first two visual assets and textured them. I am currently finalizing the last two visual assets and also editing my audio assets.
Final Folio
1. At what stage is your folio work for SIT253? Are you happy with what you have achieved?
I am at the finalization stage. Yes, I am happy with what I’ve achieved. I have finished developing all of my visual and audio assets.
2. In regards to your timeline, are you on track?
Yes, I have finished everything and have met all the expected deadlines/due dates for this project.
3. What are the primary sources of information in your folio? (Progressive folio reflections only)
I am still using the same source to guide me for my visual asset development, which is from Unity. I have also found better tutorial videos on YouTube that were helpful.
4. Is there anything you like to do differently at this point of your folio?
I am already at the finalization stage, so no, but maybe in the future I would most likely to extend this project.
5. Summarise the progression you made on asset development.
I have finished creating all of my visual assets and have rendered them with lighting included, and also created a video presentation to demonstrate how they will be used in the game. I have also created a video presentation for my audio assets using still images to show how each asset will be applied or set in the game.
After the first progressive folio submission, I had a few struggles in creating the male agent, like when using the edit poly tool to modify the shape into the shape that I wanted, which is why I decided to drop the male agent for awhile and get through the other visual assets first.
The first asset I finished creating was the case file, which is the easiest to make compared to the other three. however, I decided to re-develop the case file from an empty file to a more realistic looking folder to make it look better. The second asset was pistol, the third one was helicopter, and the last one was the male agent, which of course took more time to create, since creating a full human body requires more objects and modification.
The change of order in the development stage really affected my initial project timeline that I had to re-adjust it. I also had a few struggles when rendering my visual assets and they had to do with lighting. it was quite difficult to set the proper colour intensity, and position for the each light to make the asset to look great. However, I was able to overcome them in the end.
Using 3Ds Max was a bit difficult at first, but I had gotten used to it more from time to time. I got to use a lot of different tools in the app, like the edit poly to modify the shape of my 3D models, and other modifying tools like select and uniform scale to change the size of the objects.
Creating the audio assets was fun. I got to experiment with different objects and materials, like bottles, wooden platforms, etc, to create sounds and mixing them to produce the sounds that I wanted. I also used some garage band instrument plugins to create music for my game. I had a great learning experience throughout the project and would most likely to create more 3D and audio assets in the future.
